Let's make Time for Phonics

Our philosophy is borne out of hands-on, recent classroom experience combined with expert phonics knowledge and is based around the principle that children learn best when they are engaged, involved, and are taught in ‘short bursts’, avoiding asking young children to sit and listen for long periods.

We have devised our lessons with all of this in mind, using bright, engaging games and activities that bring joy to phonics learning.

Our Supporting Resources

Decodable Texts

Our decodable texts can be used alongside or during daily lessons. They are embedded into lessons and available as printable books or e-books.

At the end of each half term, we recommend benchmarking children in order to assign the most appropriate decodable text, using our handy assessment tracker.

Guided Reading

All of our e-books have been specifically written to only include GPCs and tricky words covered within a phonics session. They are visually appealing and all are story-based so children can embed their decoding skills and develop their comprehension skills too.

SEND Provisioning

Lessons are designed to be multi-sensory in order to engage all learners and target individual learning styles, as well as acknowledge children’s strengths and weaknesses and profile of needs. Where teachers choose to use the supplementary teaching presentations,  these are designed to be clear, easy to follow and limit distractions.

Intervention Programmes

We have two ready-made structured intervention programmes for EYFS/KS1 and KS2 children who may require further assistance. The programmes consist of detailed, clear and planned sessions to support pupils who require additional support, either 1:1 or in a small group if children are at a similar level. These can be delivered by a teaching/support assistant, class teacher, or specialist phonics teacher.

Handwriting Resources

Time for Phonics provides a range of handwriting resources that includes:

  • letter formation presentations
  • letter formation rhyme posters and resources
  • handwriting worksheets
  • and more!

All aligned with the DfE Reading Framework and phonics validation criteria.
