Phase 4

Week One

In this first week of Phase 4, children will revise the phase 2 and 3 graphemes and phonemes and learn to read and spell some CVCC words. They will also read sentences containing high frequency and tricky words.

Before phase 4, it would be useful to introduce the phrase 'adjacent consonant' to children - you can find the explanation for this in our on-demand phonics training.

This phase 4 phonics planning is aligned with the order of teaching in the Letters and Sounds framework, and is packed full of easy to prepare teaching input and phase 4 phonics resources to help children make progress.
