Week Four
In the fourth week of Phase 2, children will learn to say and recognise the sounds: ck, e, u and r, as well as the introduction of the tricky words, 'go’ and 'the'.
Tricky words, sometimes called common exception words, are words that children cannot sound out using their existing phonic knowledge. These are words that have to be learnt and read by sight. As we move through the phases, some of the tricky words will become decodable (you can sound them out), and they are then not classed as being ‘tricky’ anymore.
Our online phase 2 phonics games will be a useful accompaniment to this week’s learning. Why not try Dino Dinner, Unicorn Magic or Fire Rescue Dog to practise this week’s sounds. You can also use the phase 2 phonics consolidation booklet which is included in the accompanying resource folder.
