Time for Phonics

Time for Phonics is a DfE validated, time-saving, activity-based phonics programme that follows the Letters and Sounds progression.

With proven results, our active phonics lessons will engage children with learning, helping them make rapid progress in reading.

Time for Phonics is now available as part of  Discovery Education Espresso

Letters and Sounds

Time for Phonics is closely aligned with the Letters and Sounds framework, using the same familiar language. Daily sessions follow a set routine of review, teach, practise and apply to provide a cohesive structure.

Decodable Texts

Our decodable texts can be used alongside or during daily lessons and are available at the bottom of the appropriate lesson page. Embedded into the corresponding studio lessons, the texts are also designed to be read by children individually, either at home or in school as printable books.

Lesson Plans

The lesson plans have been specifically designed to be simple, and “pick up and go”, without too much preparation. Lessons can either be accessed online via the website, or downloaded as a weekly plan.

Phonics Screening Check Helper

With specifically designed practice resources and motivating phonics games, Time for Phonics is the ideal resource to make sure your class is ready for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.

Structured Intervention Programmes

We have two structured intervention programmes for EYFS/KS1 and KS2 children who require additional support. The programmes consist of clear, targeted sessions that can be delivered as 1:1 sessions or in small groups for pupils working at a similar level.

Accompanying Phonics Resources

Each week page contains links to the daily online lesson plans and all the downloadable resources you need for the week. Some of the resources can be re-used week after week, so there’s no need to print every single resource each time.

Lesson Presentations

In phases 2, 3, 4 and 5,  most of the online daily lessons contain a lesson presentation that can be used as an alternative to the suggested activities. The lesson presentations guide you through the lesson and can be great for those days when you feel that the children need something very structured.

Only 70% of last year’s cohort passed the phonics screening check. Those children are now in Year 2 and since using Time for Phonics, all have passed the screening check.

In the current Year 1 cohort, 88% of children passed, with the children that didn’t pass having significant additional needs or only recently having joined the school.

That is an 18% uplift in just one year of using Time for Phonics!”
